NATURE OF POSTION;

Research, develop and submit grant proposals to foundations and other grant-making organizations in conjuction with the Resource Development team and within the Annual Fundraising Plan for the Society. Maintain a calendar of submissions and assist to fulfill the necessary requirements of various funding bodies in order to support a nonprofit feminist agency to end violence against women.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training and Experience

  • Related university degree (English, Communications, Journalism, Marketing) or equivalent in training and experience
  • 2 years’ minimum experience in a similar position with comparable duties, preferably with a non-profit agency
  • Knowledge of grant application process and of various grant programs available to non-profit agencies
  • An in-depth understanding of systemic discrimination and the dynamics of violence against women
  • Experience in writing applications, proposals, expressions of interest in requests for funding

 

Job Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate program mission, goals and financial needs
  • Demonstrated research skills in discovering potential funders which match with Haven’s needs
  • Ability to gather and organize information, track multiple proposals and meet funders deadlines
  • Outstanding computer skills including MS Office programs, data base systems, and experience with fundraising databases
  • A solid understanding of budgets as they relate to proposals and grants

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Explore, identify and develop potential funding sources within a fundraising plan or strategy
  • Maintain fundraising databases, activity tracking system and related files
  • Develop core grant writing components to support grantwriting and applications
  • Maintain calendar, coordinate and write annual applications, grants and renewals
  • Persuasively communicate organization’s mission and programs to potential funders
  • Submit grant requests, including letters, proposals, budgets and presentations
  • Establish and maintain relationships with foundation and grantor contacts, Haven staff and community partners
  • Maintain confidentiality and work within a Fundraising ethical framework
