Hours per week:   up to 37.5 (may be two positions) Position Status:     Temporary – Full time to March 31, 2017
Shift Schedule:   To be determined Anticipated Start Date:      December 2017                                                    



Devise, plan, organize and facilitate groups for children who have witnessed abuse.  Provide counselling, education and advocacy support to children and youth.  Provide emotional and parenting support for parents regarding impact of violence on themselves and on their children.  Provide support to families staying at the Transition House and work closely with Outreach and Community programs serving children.





  • University degree in a related field such as Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Psychology or Education
  • Two years counselling experience working with children in group and individual settings
  • Current Children’s’ First Aid Certificate including CPR
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record check. Drivers abstract.



  • Must demonstrate ability, experience and knowledge in planning, organizing and facilitating groups for children who have witnessed abuse.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Current driver’s license.   Clean driver’s abstract.  Access to satisfactory vehicle and insurance pursuant to Haven policy
  • Feminist understanding of dynamics and causes of violence against women in relationships and the effects of this on children
  • Knowledge of, and experience in, workshop development, group process and facilitation.
  • Demonstrated interviewing and assessment skills.
  • Demonstrate a respect for diversity
  • Ability to be flexible about ideas and belief systems
  • Ability to relate to children and youth and maintain clear boundaries
  • Ability to handle conflict or crisis with children and youth
  • Awareness of and willingness to work on personal issues as they arise.
  • Foster team participation and contribute to the goals and activities of Haven Society as well as the CWWA Program
  • Personal qualities and attitudes that welcome, respect, and appreciate clients, volunteers, staff, donors, and the larger community
