The Living Right Project will provide a series of workshops to Aboriginal women and adolescents currently experiencing violence in their lives, and/or faced with the trans-generational impact of entrenched community violence.
The sessions will target Aboriginal women and adolescents impacted by the serious and complex effects of trauma and emotional distress and who are experiencing barriers to accessing services for their trauma. As importantly, women’s roles and leadership potential in the larger society and Aboriginal community will be explored.
Project goals include:
Provide traditional healing practices, knowledge and support to Aboriginal women and adolescents currently experiencing violence in their lives
Increase number of Aboriginal women accessing Haven Society Transition House services in Nanaimo
Provide cultural support for Aboriginal women while in residence at Haven Society’s Transition House
Incorporating Indigenous methods, practices and teachings in Transition House after-care support and healing
