Volunteering with Haven Society is an opportunity to make a worthwhile contribution to your community and support the vital work that we do. In 2014 alone, we benefited from the time, enthusiasm and skill of nearly 100 volunteers who contributed more than 5,000 hours of their time.

Haven Society offers a range of volunteering opportunities for women and men in areas such as:

Administration

This is a Front Desk role that requires a weekly 4 hour shift. It involves answering phones and welcoming clients and visitors to Haven.

Board Member

Haven Board members oversee the governance, finance and strategic direction of Haven. Additional interviews and paperwork must be completed prior to becoming a Board member.

Community Victim Services (CVS)

CVS roles may include talking to clients on the phone and updating client files. Direct client support and research projects may also be part of the work.

Children and Youth Who Witness Abuse (CWWA)

Working with the CWWA team, volunteer roles include preparing for group sessions, organizing art and crafts supplies and welcoming the children to Haven.

Health and Wellness

Qualified practitioners of therapies such as yoga, reiki, reflexology etc may be interested in offering these skills to Haven clients.

Parksville-Qualicum Haven House

Volunteers can get involved with fundraising and awareness raising events for our new Safe House in Parksville. There are also opportunities to assist with groups.

Resource Development

Haven is involved with about 25 community events a year and all require volunteers. Some are for raising awareness and others are for raising funds. All of them are fun! The RD team also welcomes volunteers who can help with general administrative work.

Haven Transition House

Volunteering at the house may include general housekeeping duties, driving and pick-ups, yard work, cooking or administrative tasks. You may also like to organize a movie night/self-care night for residents.

Women’s Counselling

Roles within Women’s Counseling may include preparing for group workshops and confirming appointments over the phone.

Other

Volunteers can donate their time on a weekly, monthly or annual basis depending on their availability.
These are the steps in becoming involved in our volunteer recruitment process. We ask all volunteer applicants to:

2) Attend a volunteer interview

Successful applicants will then be invited to:

  • During the volunteer recruitment process, the following steps are mandatory: a volunteer interview, completing a criminal record check, taking part in volunteer training.
